Philadelphia: Art and Design.

There is one particular thing about city life, and that’s the constant everyday hustle. Many people think of businessmen and college students, but one group is lurking in the shadows: Artists. The city of Philadelphia has many art programs for aspiring artists and designers, although many artists aren’t familiar with some parts of graphic design (that being the general idea of commercialization). But that is only one aspect of graphic design, and outside of the stereotypical “sell out” notion, comes an interesting world. One example of this independence comes at the first Friday of every month. First Friday is a monthly event that brings out all types of artists, designers, and other creative professionals. It is a way to share work, sell work, or simply to network. Philadelphia’s First Fridays are held in Old City (Front and Third, and Market and Vine street) from 5:00pm-9:00pm. This is a year round event that has over 40 galleries to enter, along with many restaurants to choose from just in case you start to have hunger pains . So, if anyone ever tells you Philadelphia doesn’t have an art scene they are sadly mistaken. Enjoy the atmosphere, and take in what this city has to offer. See you First Friday!
